I would like to read aloud 2 of the books listed from the 4-6 or 7-9 grade levels (1 from each level).  I have a 3rd/4th grader and one 7th grader and so far my preferences are Caddie Woodlawn and The Singing Tree.  Now that I think about it, maybe I should have one read aloud from both grade levels, hmmm.  If I did that I would probably choose Roll of Thunder, Hear Me Cry from the 7-9 recommendations.

Any thoughts??  These would be read aloud to a 12yo and 9yo (6yo would be listening in as he’s playing with Legos, or whatever).  TIA

Caddie is TERRIFIC.  The Singing Tree is from one of my very favorite children’s authors; you might consider also trying to tuck in the MARVELOUS (and historically preceding) The Good Master by the same author.  Anything you find from Kate Seredy is absolutly not to be missed.  Roll of Thunder is very good but tough to hear–.  Mama’s Bank Account is also very, very good–read this as a child myself and loved it.  I also really like the Sarah, Plain and Tall series, although these are easily read by your students themselves if you like.

Perfect.  I will stick to my plan and possibly try Roll of Thunder if we have time.  I really want to read it to the kids (or just to myself, don’t know). It might be a bit tough….but I hate to miss is as well.

    Thanks again.
