Module 5 question

I will be using module 5 with my 12 year old daughter this fall.  I was considering using the G. Foster history books instead of the Famous men of the 16th and 17th C.  I will probably also use Beautiful Feet’s Early American and World as a supplement to help with these books.

Can anyone provide feedback on the G. Foster books, Famous Men or BF’s Early American and World guide.

    Thanks so much!!!

I started last year with Columbus and Sons with my then 12YO son.  Those books really did not keep his interest.  He loves history, but didn’t like those books.  I had high hopes for the BF Early American Guide, using those books, but we had to switch early into the year.

We ended up reading Stories of the Nations/Stories of America as a family-spine and he supplemented his studies with living books of the time period.  We also like to listen to the Story of the World audio books.

My friend’s 15YO daughter also didn’t make it through the Foster books.  She is an excellent student but found them very dry.

I am not much help here, but I am planning the same thing for module 5 next year when my son will be 12 and grade 7.  The BF guide uses most of the same books as SCM for that grade, but I thought it would be more independent for him and lead him to using maps, doing written narrations, and further studies.  He had read Foster’ s Year of the Flying Machine book two years ago and liked it.

Bump.  Any more thoughts on the Foster books and the BF Early American and World guide for grades 7 – 9?

I am considering ordering this guide for my 6th grader to use for Columbus and Sons halfway through module 4 next year, and continuing it with module 5 and the first part of module 6 with Lincoln.
