I’m in the thick of planning and looking for reassurance.  😉  Last year we covered Old Testament history in one year by combing Module 1 & 2.  I did not use the Famous Men of… books.  This year, I would like to cover the New Testament, Rome, from Module 3 and Middle Ages, Renaissance from Module 4.  I am using this with a 1st and 2nd grader and only plan to use 4-6 chapters of the Famous Men of Rome book.  We are also using the Vos Story Bible for our New Testament study.  I’m using a combination of SCM Modules and Lessons From History.  Here’s a tentative plan of the people/events I’d like to cover:

    Term 1 Rome

    – Julius Caesar

    – Cleopatra

    – Augustus Caesar

    – Jesus

    – Peter

    – Paul

    – Mount Vesuvius

    – Nero

    – Constantine

    Term 2 & 3 Middle Ages & Renaissance

    – Attila the Hun

    – St. Benedict

    – Pope Gregory

    – Justinian

    – Mohammed

    – Charlemagne

    – Leif Ericcson

    – William the Conqueror

    – King Arthur ??

    – Medieval Life

    – Crusades

    – King John

    – Giotto

    – Genghis Kahn, Marco Polo

    – Incas

    – Black Plague

    – John Wyclif

    – Joan of Arc

Any suggestions or ideas would be helpful.  Has anyone else combined modules?

    Thanks,

    Melissa

Very curious to see what others think as I am trying to do this as well, but with an older child in 7th grade..Doable? yes? no? I think your plan looks great, but I think I will have to add in a bit more for an older one..

I think if you’re willing to skip some things you can certainly do it.  At their young ages you know they’ll be coming back to these time periods again later.  For now you’re giving them an age-appropriate visit in these time periods, which will be fleshed out more the next time around.  I say go for it!
