    Hi Everyone (& Robin)

Every year I am on the fence whether or not I should get TQ to go along with my SCM Module.

Next year we will be moving on to M2. Can you suggest a TQ guide for that? Would it be Ancient Greece? I also see there is a guide for Middle Ages? Does this go along with M2?

I am not really excited about the next bit of history…M2 and M3. (Greece and Middle Ages). It seems as though taking the TQ guide along with the Module, it will be REALLY covering a not so interesting time period. Possible save TQ for when we get to a period we like? Thoughts?

Will doing M2 as the framework, while adding in TQ books and commentary totally overwhelm me? Honestly, I am a bit intimidated by the book list. But honestly, the reviews on some of the SCM M2 books I think I might skip and try and find better reads (if they are out there). Ex: Story of the Greeks. That is why I was thinking a TQ guide would be helpful, to find substitutions.

    Thanks!

    Kelly

How old are your children?  We are finshing M2 and mine (ages 9-13) have loved the books.  I purchased TQ Greeks, but never really integrated it.  SCM just feels like the right amount for us.

@Bramble, phew, great to hear you enjoyed it!

The ages of the children are 1-13. Grades K-8th next year. Hoping the 2nd grader will listen a little (?), not expecting the K’er to follow at all.

Are there any books you would skip, or find alternates to? Add?

Did you do anything in place of the Greeks book, or just not implement it?

    Thanks

PS: Still looking for TQ responses too!  🙂

Kelly, I’m not sure I can be of much help since I’m not sure I’ve even seen a SCM guide.  I’ve used TQ since its release in 2001, I believe.  One thing I would never be able to deal with is having a specific book list with particular lesson plans with those books.  I love TQ’s method of…here’s the topic and here are book choices.  And most moms don’t have 17,000 books at their fingertips, either, so I understand that.  If you prefer things to be more streamlined, use the SCM guide and ask on the forum for book recommendations if you need them.  There are some great titles for Greece and many fabulous titles for the Middle Ages.  If you love flexibility and more freedom of choice, add TQ.  Sounds like a cop-out answer, I know.  🙂

Kelly, I’ve used both SCM and TQ. I really think it depends whether you want something laid out/open and go, or if you’re willing to put together your own thing. I, like RobinP, feel restricted with a program that tells me what to do each day. I’m also not a fan of the Famous Men books for younger children. I feel they’re better suited for approx. 5th grade on up.

I love the freedom to plan, pick, and choose, that TQ gives me. However, the book lists can be overwhelming for some. I do also love many of the SCM module literature choices. Often times they are listed in the TQ guides and are books that we choose.

    Blessings,
    Melissa
