Besides Boy of the Pyramids, I am looking for suggestions/ recommendations for additional read-a-louds to go with module 1.

    A few I was considering –

Tirzah , mystery of the Egyptian scroll & Mara daughter of the Nile. Have any of you read these ?

Any others that were hits in your family?

    My kids are 6 & 8.

    Thanks for reading 🙂

I’m listening in, too.  We’ll be doing Mod 1 for next school year and my girls are 9, 8, 6, and 4.

Tirzah and Boy of the Pyramids are on my list.

If you can find it at your library or through ILL, Once Upon A Time in Egypt is great for those ages.

I’m also planning to do the MacCaulay Pyramid book and if I can find it, maybe the Elizabeth Mann Pyramid book.

I did check All Through the Ages, and there are some books listed there, but I’m not familiar with them.  I was hoping someone would mention them:

Senefer: A Young Genius in Old Egypt

    Nefertari, Princess of Egypt

    Pepi and the Secret Names

Hatshepsut: The Princess Who Became King

    Shadow Hawk

Like I said, I know nothing about those books – but if I can find them, I’ll consider using them.

The Cat of Bubastes by G.A. Henty is one that my kids loved this past year.  Someone mentioned earlier that it is on one of the websites where you can download books for free.  I think that you can find it here:

I just remembered that we enjoyed Peeps at Many Lands: Ancient Egypt by James Baikie and the other of the same name by R. Talbot Kelly. Both are available as free audiobooks here.

Tirzah is really good, I’d put it at the top of your list

Thanks ladies for your input!! Looks like we will plan on adding Tirzah for sure.

Lishie- how old are your kids? I ask b/c I am unsure about cat of Bubastes, the age recommendation is for much older kids ( mine are 6 & 8 ). Unless those recommendations are based on independent reading vs. read alouds ??? If that’s the case then I need re-evaluate my list.

What about the Golden Goblet? Is it to advanced for my kiddos?

Karen – Pepi & the secret names sounds interesting. I will look into that some more.

    Thanks again:)

We also have (read some, but not all)  Little Miriam of Galilee, Adara, Timna and God King.
