I know there were several of us starting Module 1 this January, so I wanted to see how it was going for everyone.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a HUGE hit.  It’s great when my 3 year old wants to cuddle during the read alouds and offers narrations too (completely voluntary, of course!).  It makes her sister want to tell me that much more!  I am a little hesitant about the Old Testament.  While I have been wanting to share our Creator with my kids, there’s a lot of hard stuff in there.  It’s not the first time I’ve read the Bible, quite the contrary, it’s just VERY different reading it as an adult versus reading it outloud to a 6 year old.  Wow, how do you explain Cain and Abel or God flooding the Earth?  I wasn’t prepared for it, but my kids are actually doing fine and are really curious.

Anyway, I would love to hear how everyone else is doing!

We started it in September with my 8 year old. And I agree with you! How on Earth do you explain Abraham getting ready to kill his son because God says so, to your son? My 4 year old son son was horrified! There are some lessons that it says to skip for younger children. But even the stuff in there that isn’t said to be skipped is tough. I recommend studying the lesson yourself the night before and deciding whats appropriate for your family and your child. There may be a story or a lesson you can find on line to do instead of reading that particular story from the bible. Or if its really a tough one, just skip it all together and when he’s a teen or so, you’ll be back at Module 1 again and by then you can dig deeper. Thats what we decided to do for our family.

Thank you!  I do need to give myself the freedom to skip, skim or modify anything I have a hard time with such a young child!  It will come back around again!
