I love that SCM includes great biographies of Christians and missionaries and such a bible centered history plan, but I would like to incorporate more missions and church history/missionary biographies, etc. into our homeschool during all of the years, regardless of what module or time period we are studying. Have any of you done this?
I have thought to just have it to be “extra” because it is something I would teach my children even if we didn’t homeschool, just as part of their discipleship. I will naturally work it in to our geography and history as well, but it is something I’d like to incorporate every term.
Any thoughts? Is it easier to “tack on” as something separate so you don’t have to worry about integrating it?
We are Year 0 right now so A to Z Church History by Crossway has been great, as well as Missionary Stories with the Millers.
We had a similar goal as you. We ended up finding and loving Trial and Triumph by Richard Hannula. We read one story per week at night during our family devotions because my husband did not want to miss it! I learned a ton of church history! We have also enjoyed the SCM history guides as well as Missionary Stories with the Millers.
I was thinking something similar. I think it will be included with our Family Devotions because I am sure my husband will want to be a part of the reading and discussion. Right now we do Catechism, Hymn Study, and Missions during our family devotion, so down the road we can alternate with some Church History as well.
