I am wanting to work in some missionary books for my children, but I don’t know how to fit in one more thing in my schedule. I knew you ladies would have some great ideas. Any thoughts?
Do you already read during breakfast or lunch? I have had trouble fitting these books in also unless they are what my DH is reading as our family read aloud…but instead of reading a whole book on a certain missionary I have started using Hero Tales by Dave and Neta Jackson. There are 4 volumes filled with three stories each of different missionaries.
Since the stories are short I can fit one in during lunch or during a “break” in the day. Or when the kids are just getting “wild”. I say “ON the couch I am going to read from Hero Tales!” and all the kids come running. I read the short story and then we are off onto other things.
Of course I would love for my dc and I to know the whole story of these great missionaries but for now this is a way to introduce many missionaries and countries (great for geography) to my children in little snippets of time.
Oh and by the way..even though the stories are short..they still can make me cry with amazement of how great our God is. (referring to a past post about getting emotional while we read to our children)
I heartily second the Hero Tales suggestion! Also, YWAM publishing has wonderful missionary books in the Christian Heroes Then & Now series here: text to link
