I am looking for some tried and true advice ( in other words, I don’t really want to try everything I find on the internet and hope something works!) My dd8 has very long, curly, beautiful hair. We both love it and love doing it, however, she now has a big wad of gum in it! In an area that would take off quite a bit of hair if we were to cut it out. It would turn into a major hair cut! because it is in a very noticable place and pretty far up her mane. Does peanut butter really work? does ice? and does is hurt to get it out? She is a sweet girl but does not have a high pain tolerance at all! I’ll check back in a few and hope that someone with some experience has some help for me!
Peanut butter and olive oil have both worked for me. I’ve never tried ice, but it makes sense. You might try the ice first, then see if something oily does the trick.
Thank you Misty and Lindsey! It is finally out! I thought we were going to have to cut it for a bit, there. I had tried the ice first right after I posted the first time but it only worked on very small amounts and the big glob stayed put, though hair was ripping when we tried to budge it! Then I saw Misty’s post and tried the PB which did take a while but it worked without any ripping and minimal pain…on dd’s part anyway . Lots of hairwashing later…and we are gum free. Now we need to get caught up on our school work before ballet!. I had been hoping to get some extra housework done, but….such is life, right?!
Thanks again for your help, we were a little hesitant to start slathering PB in her hair on top of the gum so I’m glad I was able to get some advice from people who have actually done it!
I know ice gets gum off shoes, though, just in case anyone wants to know for further info!
