We are into our 3rd book of the Millers series by Mildred A. Martin, for personal development. Today we read chapter 5 in School Days with the Millers about a missionary in Haiti. My children loved the story and did not realize that people still worhip idols, etc. But they wanted to know if the story was true. Specifically, they wanted to know if his satchel really would not open; which is a question of God’s power.
ooo, that was a great story! As for all the stories, I don’t know. But, for the missionary stories I believe they are true. The Miller book Missionary Stories w/ the Millers are true accounts. At the end of each story, there is a snippet of info that the book gives about each missionary and their work! So, I would think that the one about Haiti was true also! If you have not read Missionary Stories, put it on your list! My boys loved them! And when we were finished w/ the book, they were so disappointed! And so was I!
As a matter of fact, we have finished all the Miller series and my boys were sad! I just cannot part w/ them now because I know they will re-read them someday. My boys are 8 and 10.
Hi Sarah. So it sounds like this is a good opportunity for you and the kids to dig into what your beliefs are about God’s power today. What a neat experience for you all!
I have to agree that Missionary Stories with the Millers was very much enjoyed and appreciated around here, and the stories conveyed are true, in my opinion. But that isn’t based on anything but trust in the author, basically.
If you do an internet search for similar supernatural events occurring with foreign missionaries (or just speak with a missionary) you don’t have to go far to find out that God does work powerfully on their behalf and for their protection.
Blessings!
