Anyone know a good resource of Michigans State History? Thanks, Heather 🙂

The main branch of the Grand Rapids Public Library (downtown) has a whole floor dedicated to Grand Rapids and state history. You might check there for possible resources.

Also, just about any state run tourists information/visitor centers have books about Michigan. Try state parks with gift shops. Hoffmaster State Park and Ludington State Park both have nature center/visitor centers so you might try those. You will have to pay a fee to get into the park though.

There is also a Michigan estore that has some books and videos on Michigan history.

Thanks Karen. you’ve been most helpful! Looks like we’ll be planning a few more field trips this year! I’m off to check the MI estore. Laughing

Living Books Curriculum has a resource called LBC Guide to Michigan History Through Literature.  It is available as an e-book or a regular book.

    The website is:

mom24boys, LBC guide to MI history looks great! However, I can’t seem to find a sample, literature list, or age range on their website. Have you any idea where I can locate this info? Thanks ~ Heather

Oh, what a great thread! I love Michigan history and can’t wait to share it with my boys 🙂

(Btw, where are you guys? We’re in the Lansing area.)

    Heather,

It is also available from http://www.currclick.com

It lists the reccomended age as 8 and up.  There is a more complete preview at currclick.com than at LBC.

I haven’t personally seen this resource since we don’t live in Michigan.  If we did – I would probably already own it!

Thanks, mom24boys; I’ll check out the preview at currclick.

Sanveann, we live north of GR. DH and I lived in Lansing when we first married, 17 years ago – loved it!

Heh — I’m from the Flint area originally, so Lansing seems like a BIG step up for me! 😉
