I’m not exactly sure how to phrase this, but I am wondering if there is a resource or even just a list somewhere of things to memorize for kids? I would love to find something like catechism where you memorize things that the older people at church just know because they were taught them somewhere…
Does that make sense? I guess I could start with The Lords Prayer, but what are some other good things to memorize? I grew up in the church and have found that there are certain things that everyone just “knows” and I’m wondering how my kids are going to just know them?
We memorize the Westmister Shorter Catechism. My 6yo is on Question 30. I found these set to music and that makes it so much easier. You could google it and find the entire catechism.
There is also a children’s version of the catechism.
The old hymns of the faith are great for children to memorize. Our church sings Psalms as well and that’s a good way to get scripture in your heart. And, of course, nothing is more important that the actual Word itself, both short and long passages. Books of the Bible.
Just some things for starters that could keep you busy for a LONG time.
So far this school year we’ve memorized The 23rd Psalm, The 10 Commandements, and we are working on the scripture list on SCM. Is that what you mean? HTH!
