Last night I had the opportunity to meet Sonya at one of her conferences in Bolingbrook, IL. This is the 2nd conference I have attended of hers, and the first one where she was actually present. The first conference I attended was the “All Day Workshop”, which I highly recommend for anyone out there that hasn’t taken it yet. It was a DVD seminar held at a local church in our area. I was so excited after taking that workshop, that when I got home, I downloaded the “Laying Down The Rails” book, and soon after signed up for the workshop, which was held last night. I just have to say that I was somewhat star-struck when I met her. I mean for a CM homeschool mom, she is somewhat of a celebrity. She was so down to earth, and funny, and had the best advise for not only teaching our children, but touching their heart as well. It was so worth the tiny amount that it cost to attend. I just have to say that it is so nice to have someone who has done the studying of CM’s method thoroughly, and can give us as mothers concrete ideas on what to do, and how we can learn, as well. I am almost embarrassed to admit that on the list of 60 habits we should teach our children, that I need to work on a great number of those myself. Sad but true. Anyway, I didn’t get to personally thank her last night, because she was busy answering many questions, so I am doing it now. Thanks Sonya for what you do, and for being such a good example for homeschooling moms like me. Yes, we all have bad mommy trophies, like you said last night, but thank goodness there is someone like you out there who can teach us how to put away those trophies for good. It truly is a ministry that you have here on this website. Thank you so very much for taking the time to spend with us. I cherish you as a teacher, and a mentor. Praying for your safety as you travel to your other conferences. Amy B.
Bless your heart, Amy. Thank you for the encouragement. It was great meeting you and your husband. (Hope you had a great mini-retreat together!)
Please don’t be embarrassed about cultivating habits in your own life. Some of us were discussing that very topic while we were tearing down the book displays and packing up last night. It is definitely a lifelong process! We decided that if we waited until we had all the habits before helping our children cultivate them, our children would never have the opportunity. 🙂
They will learn a lot about perseverance and depending on the Lord and so many other principles by traveling the journey with you. And you will be able to sympathize more with them in their efforts if you are working on habits of your own.
So good for you! We’ll all work on habits together!
