I’ve decided that maybe my brain is becoming on overdrive and is need of a good break just like the kids!! A couple hours after we were done school for the day I realized that we’d totally skipped math. Hadn’t done a thing! How do I totally forget to do a subject? That is cared for now. Math completed, now back to the other things we were doing.
You know what? I totally understand. We didn’t even do any school today. NONE!!!!!! And it felt so good. My kids were ready and I was NOT. I think all moms who homeschool need days to fold clothes, run the sweeper and read a good book.
Our day was a little “off” too even though we had our real break last week (we do 3 on/1 off). The holidays and the added sicknesses always mess us up, so I know what you mean. Hopefully everyone will feel better tomorrow and we’ll get back on track . That’s my goal anyway.
I just had a 2-week break, and then today we were visiting Grandma (but we did take a little bit of schoolwork with us and got that done). Ah, homeschooling – the only form of education where you can take off as many days as you need to, just because!
I agree with needing a day off….so tomorrow, we’re NOT doing schoolwork, I’m doing AS LITTLE housework as possible, and my dad is taking us OUT TO DINNER….
Oh, I should probably mention that the real reason this is happening is because it is my birthday. I have it listed as a federal holiday on our school organizer.
Well lets see…. we took Wed and Thur off last week because I just couldn’t get motivated – felt a bit “off”… and Friday was errand day….
Thursday my husband wasn’t feeling great…. but went to work. (not a holiday here in Canada)… had taken Friday off as a day off… has been sick since.
Saturday the 1.5yo got really ucky eyes (but not pink eye thank goodness) that lasted a couple of days, and she has been kind of not eating well and a bit fussy since….
Sunday night the 8yo got sick. Seems better but not eating well (and occasional complaints of legs aching) was sick Monday.
Tuesday night the 5yo got sick (threw up on her sister so I had to clean up both.) felt better right after…. but still isn’t eating well
And I’m up at 3am right now because the 3yo got sick. (she isn’t eating well either)
Oh, and did I mention that I haven’t felt well since Monday either…. muscles aching, sore throat, etc.
Just waiting for the 1.5yo to get sick…. you gotta love the little ones sick (sarcasm here) because they just throw up all over you as you try to comfort them…..
So…. 6 people in the house, and over the last few days, they have all been sick with some symptoms or others….
GEE, we all must be connected somehow! LOL! We went through the pox w/ one child…no school for attending to him…now two wks later pox w/ the next! This time it is much worse! We did however do school MTW! And last wk dad was off..so that means we are too! hee hee
Then dad will be off Dec 10 through Jan something. And we will be traveling here and there. It seems that the winter months for us have kept us from a lot of school in the past too! Due to sickness and holidays..and just pure excitement about approaching the holidays too!
Happy b-day Sue! Suzukimom, so sorry about your kiddos..feel well soon! I have been up for a little while too. Had to put my son in the bath and he has tons of pox in his mouth! I think we are in for a long, long day!
Pangit, LOL I have done that one at least one occasion..hmmm, if not more!! Esp when you have interuptions! Then in the afternoon my son will say …HEY! We didn’t do such and such…Shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone!
I’m chuckling reading this thread. We’re trying to stay as consistent as we can because we’ll be having baby Mason most likely by the end of the month and then everything goes out the window as we deal with a premature baby with surgeries. (you can read more about it here if you don’t know what’s going on: http://masonsbjournal.blogspot.com/ ) Homeschool is officially cancelled once he’s born for at least 6 weeks. We’ll stick with life as school and call it our science and health course for the year (what a course it will be!).
I have to say this is one of the biggest blessings of homeschooling. We’ve worked extra days knowing a baby was coming and we’ll finish up the rest in June/July if needed. No big deal.
