Has anyone used the MathTacular DVDs as a supplement? Karen Andreola reviewed it in the CBD catalog. I can’t make up my mind between that and Life of Fred elementary.
We had and sold Mathtacular 1. I put it in the player, and my children, ages 3-10, gave me the, “Are you serious?” look. I couldn’t handle it either. We are really excited about using LOF this year, though!
Go with Life of Fred. We have both. My kids love Mathtacular but they watch if more for fun. I think they learn some but it’s not a solid math program. It’s more like ‘hey this is fun and sometimes we learn something.’ LoF is fun and it sticks. They actually learn the math.
This is good to know! I have all 4 DVD’s for MathTacular in my SL cart. I wanted something visual to reinforce math with my DD, but we have decided to do MUS, so maybe that will be enough. I LOVE LOF, but had decided to get MathTacular instead-guess it’s back to LOF:) So glad you ladies posted.
We don’t have Life of Fred, although I would like to get them if I find them at a reasonble price used.
We do have Mathtacular. It is scheduled for 15 minutes once per week. My oldest does oral narration afterwards. I think it helps them to see math used in various ways and to realize that math is a part of every day life. My kids are ages 5 and 8 and we have been through Mathtacular 1 at least 2 times and are now starting on Mathtacular 2. They love Justin and think he is funny, as opposed to Steve the MUS video guy. It is a supplement though. You need a math course to follow regularly, but I think LOF is that way too. I see them acting like Justin sometimes, like with pair snacks. At snack time, they count by 2’s and if they are odd, they take care of the problem by eating one.
