My son will be in 10th grade. He is almost done with MUS algebra I and I think we’ll just move onto algebra II. (doing geometry after algebra II). That said he has done Apologia General science, physical science and an eviromental science already. I know he will want one more science under his belt like chemistry or physics. That said do you think waiting to do science until he finishes algebra II would be a good idea or go ahead and do Algebra II along side Chemistry? Thoughts?? Thanks Misty
Does Apologia recommend Algebra II as a prerequisite to Chemistry? If so then I would not do them side by side. My reasoning is simple – you want to challenge him, not frustrate him. If he’s trying to learn the science then don’t add in needing to master the math skills to do the science.
With that said, I did that exact thing in High school, (took classes concurrently that were supposed to be done sequentially). And I took double science in the same semester (anatomy with lab and chemistry with lab while taking the science I was supposed to have finished before beginning chemistry). It worked out fine, I just had a lot of studying to do. Depends on the child really.
According to Apologia’s website he should have finished Algebra I before taking Chemistry. My dd is finishing Algebra soon and we hope to start chemistry in a few months. Will post again when I find the link… Good idea, Sue. He can take Biology and Marine Biology before Chemistry if he is looking for something to study now. My dd has taken Bio and is now doing Marine Bio.
Sue – I am sorry I missed writing that he has done Biology already.
Cheryl – thanks I couldn’t find it. Well I guess we could move on to chemistry then as he’ll be done with Algebra 1 in a couple weeksl. Hmm thanks everyone!
