Now I know this isn’t exactly CM friendly BUT it’s starting to at least make math non-fighting, non-crying, non-anything at this point. I am wondering if anyone else is using this? We are doing the Blue book, multiplication.
We did the multiplication book over the summer. It was effective with both of my scholars. Even the little guy joined in on the oral drill at times, even though he doesn’t understand the concept.
I switced my 8 year old into 2B and it’s going well. I plan to start my youngest child with Math Mammoth 1A at late age 6 or early 7. I didn’t want to switch my older child because I’d already switched her math once before.
Honestly, I don’t know much about CM’s philosophy on math, but I’m a firm believer in the mastery approach. I find Math Mammoth to be clear, concise and affordable.
My 11 yo uses it to reinforce fractions. My 8yo uses the one for Telling Time. They were both very inexpensive and they are both to the point with little to no teacher prep (meaning me). We use Saxon for their “real” math lessons then use the Math Mammoth for what I described above. I do mostly oral lessons (especially with my 8yo) in the Saxon, but then with the MM we can just grab a binder and take off. If I need them to bring something to occupy themselves at any given time, that’s the math I bring.
I have teetered back and forth on changing their math altogether to MM or MEP…haven’t decided yet:) We’ve been using Saxon for so long and neither of them complain, they actually like it…but they might really like something else to use for their full curriculum, we’ll see.
We love math mammoth and use it for my 3rd grade son. we use the light blue, full curriculum series. i like the mental math and real-world applications. we switched from MUS. i think it’s great.
We started using Math Mammoth late last school year. My now seven year old likes math again and my 9 year old is finally understanding things now. She is a hands on learner, so I thought all the worksheets would throw her off but she loves it. At the price it is, I wouldn’t feel bad if they didn’t love it anyway.
