I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the books Math Lessons for a Living Education. We have the elementary set of Life of Fred and have been using them as a supplemental addition and my kids enjoy it a lot. I recently came across Math Lessons for a Living Education for the first time and was interested to hear form anyone who has used it. How does it compare to LOF? Is it worth having both or is sticking with one best? I tend to find something new and think, “oh fun! I should add that in too” but because I know that about myself I work hard to really be sure before I add anything to what we are already doing and enjoying.

we did MFALE for over a and we did enjoy it. DD wished for more instruction in book 4. About 3/4 the way through we used Ray’s Arithmetic to top it up a bit. That may have been her own needs though, not necessarily the program. We too, did LOF simultainiously because they loved Fred. They enjoyed his antics and it was not too much work to run with both together. You can download a free MFALE book off Angela O’Dell’s website right now if you want to give it a go for free. I do want to throw in though, if you are looking for excellent math advice, Richele B’s book Mathmatics, from here on SCM is so very helpful. It helped me as a teacher and observer of their learning.

MLFLE has a few manipulatives and is more of a story with workbook pages. My dd 11 likes it, as do I,  but she needs more intensive instruction, so we switched to Right Start.  We will still use this occasionally.  I would say the story line is sweeter than LOF.  We have both also.
