I’m curious to hear what you moms do for yourselves in the way of masterly inactivity. I tend to get in a rut pretty easily and would love to hear fresh ideas!!

well, i’ve recently started knitting (using the loom) and i’ll be getting a sewing machine soon so, i’ll be doing some sewing. I’m also planning to buy some flowers to pot and plant and maybe doing a potted garden.

I knit and crochet and collect dolls, and am always at work on one of them. When I have time I enjoy reading mysteries. Often, I’ll take up a project for a season such as watercolor painting, gardening, hand-sewing, spinning, etc.

Lauri do knit with a loom or just use needles? Did you teach yourself and do you have any pictures of your projects? Thanks

I sew and I digital scrapbook. And of course, I read like mad. 😀 I also lead a CM Book Club once a month. Very therapeutic.

What a great topic! I am ALWAYS inspired by the creative work of others.

I love to work on my nature journal (thank you, thank you, Charlotte Mason!). I’m not particularly good at drawing, but I do enjoy it. I prefer to draw with colored pencils, but I’m trying to teach myself to use watercolors. That will be my project outdoors this summer – to improve my painting skills.

I write, which is more of a passion than a pastime.

Like others here, I am a reader and I usually have a few books going at one time.

I also like to exercise, which I see as creative (and spiritual) work because it certainly clears my mind and helps me think, and being physical keeps me energized and in shape.

I enjoy handicrafts, but since I took up drawing, I’m finding less time and interest in my usual hand-sewing projects. Embroidery is my favorite handicraft, and I love to look at embroidery by others as well as stitch it myself.

***The9clarks*** I would love to hear how you organize the CM book club, if you have the time and interest to give us some details.

Wow! Seeing all your great activities shows me I’m in a bigger rut than I even realized!! I too would like details for the CM book club. The trouble is finding those who are CM minded and want to invest their time in this way. Do any of you live in the middle TN area????

    Thanks for your responses!!

Esby – I’ve been interested in using watercolor pencils, too, and someone highly recommended this book http://www.amazon.com/Watercolor-Pencil-Magic-Cathy-Johnson/dp/158180119X# . I borrowed it from our library system and was very impressed. It’s out of print and costly through Amazon, but I did find a copy through e-bay for $20. Just thought I’d share this with you. 😀

Great thread! Thanks for posting mj.

My main activity is sewing, I also dabble in a few other crafts (loom knitting, trying to learn embroidery).

If you are interested in learning a new crafting hobby, there is a huge crafting community at http://www.craftster.org with forums for every type of craft. (One note, this site is visited by all types of people so some posts or topics may be inappropriate, but the wealth of information there is amazing.)

I knit with needles, and I’m on Ravelry where I have some photos of both knitting and crochet. I’ve been knitting and crocheting for many years. A neighbor taught both my oldest daughter and I many years ago. My daughter is a knitting pattern designer for Frog Tree yarns.

I knit and crochet and sew. We are getting into gardening. I play around with teaching myself piano, guitar, Spanish and French. I love to bake and cook. I’m an information hog and love to read and research. I hated history in school, but now I love it.
