Hmm. Well, I personally would wait on the novels. I think he’d get more out of them, have more appreciation, at an older age. I know what it’s like to have kids reading far above grade level. But IMO they’d be better left until a little later. I have to admit, I’m not a huge Twain fan, and we read what we HAVE to, and don’t rush into it. LOL
If you really wanted to expose him to Twain, try something like “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”
I really liked Created for Work, but again, IMO the reflection necessary would really work better for an older boy, one who is closer to thinking about what it will be like to be a working person. The exception would be if your dh wanted to read it along with your son and they could discuss and identify things to work on together, etc. But for reading alone I’d wait a little bit.
It’s so hard to keep advanced readers busy with excellent books but keep the books requiring some thinking and maturity for their right time, isn’t it? Sigh. BTDT! LOL
