In my internet travels, I’ve come across Map Trek by Knowledge Quest.  You can see it here: http://www.knowledgequestmaps.com/Map-Trek-Outline-Maps.html

I’m a map junkie, and it looks very neat.  Has anyone used it?  How does it compare to Uncle Josh’s Outline Maps?

Would it be better to have both? Or just one?  Both look like great resources for many, many years to come.

    Thanks for your input,

    Katrina

I have both. I had wanted the Map Quest for geography but it turned out to be more for history (my misunderstanding). I tried using the cd for map drills but now I can’t remember if that worked or not…I’ll have to check the cd again. We are doing US/North America and I believe I was using their US map for that. Anyway, the book is very nice, the history program in the book would be good if that’s the direction you want to go, but it’s not what we want to do. We aren’t using it (may for reference) and just purchased the Uncle Josh’s CD and am looking forward to seeing how this works out.

I’ll let you know once I do that, if that helps.

I’d like to know that too.  I need to buy something and I can’t decide.  Hopefully someone here can help!

my3boys – how is it more for history than geography? (what’s the difference?) :S

or you could just see my post here… 😉 http://simplycharlottemason.com/scmforum/topic/defining-geography?replies=1#post-63054

Ummm…hope I don’t mess this up, ha, ha.

The books title says: Atlas and Outline Maps of World History. The lesson plans begin in the Ancients, right after introducing landforms, etc. It starts with Descendents of Noah, Mesopotamia, Sumeria, Abraham, etc. Then the Medieval World, then New World, then Modern World. The lessons are history lessons, well, I say history, but really they’re asking for you dc to label, count the cities within a country, label regions, bodies of water, etc. Every lesson has the child label, color, locate, maybe use wikipedia…..

Does this make sense?? Each lesson has titles like: The Crimean War, The American Civil War, Italy United, The Cold War.

It’s definitely not what I was expecting and had a hard time using it for geography when I was using what SCM suggested in Mod. 5. Because it has “time periods” maybe you could use it for those specific time periods instead of using it from start to finish. To me, it was too confusing to use it along with what we were doing (unless I used it as stated above), but maybe I didn’t give it enough time, I don’t know.

It’s a very nice book, it just wasn’t what I needed at the time, maybe in the future. HTH

Hm – I noticed they have curriculum guides for various history curriculums to help you know what map you need…. maybe we need to request a SCM guide… ?

Thank you, that actually helps quite a bit. 🙂

I own both. I wanted to use the Map Trek for our historical studies and I have requested a SCM curriculum guide, twice. As there is currently no guide available, I don’t use Map Trek at all. It’s a shame as it is a well put together resource and I’d like to incorporate it, but I never find the time to pull out the maps I need. I admit that I’m learning history/geography along with my kids and am not well versed in it. It’s just too much for me at this point, but it sits on my shelf waiting to get used!

I use Uncle Josh’s cd to print blank maps for map drill. They work great.

I don’t own them, but would like to.  Like Christie, I don’t think I’d be able to figure out how to use them, nor do I have the time or patience to tackle the project.  They’d just sit on my shelf unless I knew HOW to use them with the history/geography modules.

Perhaps if more people request a curriculum correlation guide..Wink  http://www.knowledgequestmaps.com/Integration-Guides.html

    Well, I added a request…

I, too, added a SCM request for the curriculum integration guides a few weeks ago, so hopefully our voices can be heard.  🙂

Thanks so much for everyone’s feedback; I think I’ll probably wait on MapTrek this year, and get Uncle Josh’s CD, and see what happens with the curriculum integration process.
