I am very interested in the following 3 map resources but don’t want to purchase them all right now. I would like to be able to have outline maps to do map drill. This year we will be doing Genesis through Deut & Ancient Egypt, so I particularly need a map of that area for us to focus on for this year. Can anyone tell me about any of these map resources?
Geography Coloring Book by Wynn Kapit
Rose Then and Now Bible Maps Deluxe (with CD-Rom) – I love the idea of seeing where things were in Bible times with the overlay of the current countries, but not sure if this resource will have outline maps that I can use for map drill.
I haven’t heard of the Coloring book, but I have the other 2 resources. I use the Then and Now Bible Maps to look up places during our readings, but not for map drill. I think it is more important to learn current locations and Uncle Josh’s is great for that. I did just buy some maps w/ labels to use for map drill time, too, from Montessori Outlet.
We have the Then and Now book too and I like the overlays as well but no outline maps were in it. However we did not get a CD-Rom with our book so maybe that is something new.
One more question for those of you who have the Then and Now book. We are doing Module 1 (Genesis through Duet and Ancient Egypt) this upcoming year. Is there anything in this book that will be related to that History Module or useful to us in our studies. It is our first year homeschooling and I need to get things that will be useful RIGHT NOW due to $. It is very expensive to start homeschooling when you have nothing! I know I will love this book, but don’t want to purchase it just yet unless it will relate to our current studies.
For everyone else I did find some nice outline maps at http://www.worldatlas.com They have a very nice Africa one that will work for us for this year. I may try to enlarge it a little to allow more room for the kids to write in the country names.
Yes, the Then and Now book will be helpful as you can look up the places you read about in scripture, but if you have a Bible with a good map, you could just use that. However, you’ll not have the now part on the same map, but could print one out and compare. So, while it would be useful, I don’t think it is an absolute necessity if money is an issue (and isn’t it always .)
