All of my kids are getting magazines this year in their stockings. The 12YO is getting Boys’ Life, the 9YO and 6YO are getting Ranger Rick/Ranger Rick Jr. We already get Nature Friend magazine, too.
I can’t seem to think of something for my 5YO, though. She can read. She likes to write, craft, and LOVES to do workbooks. She likes dresses and all-things-pretty. I’m looking for a quality magazine for a girl her age. Any suggestions?
I agree that Highlights is an excellent magazine. There’s also Ladybug (one of the Cricket family for ages 3-6), which I took for my daughter. And Focus on the Family Clubhouse Jr. would work for her age bracket, too.
We do get High Five in the mail. With that said it is twaddle. My kids love the search and find page, they love the page you find all the things that are silly on. But the stories and kiddie images are twaddle. Like I said we get it in the mail but I would not consider it something that is growing/ stretching the little minds in my house.
If she likes puzzles and such, Higlights offers a subscription to just a search and find type magazine. I’ve never ordered it, but have gotten info about it in the mail. We take God’s World News (multiple levels), Nature Friend, Young Rider, Horse Illustrated, Equus. In the past, we took Ranger Rick and Clubhouse Jr. And some of the Cricket mags. Of those, we liked Ranger Rick best. There is one called Zoobooks which have great covers, but I haven’t read. A quick google search found Kids Crafts 1-2-3 and KidCrafts. I don’t know anything about these, but thought I’d mention them.
