Do you ever have some homeschooling books that sit on your shelf (or in a box), you’ve never really used it, but you can’t seem to let it go either? I hope someone can relate because I have more than I’d care to admit in that category! But Lyrical Life Science is one of them.
Seriously, I’ve had 3 volumes of LLS for…lol, I don’t think I can bring myself to say how long! And I’ve never.used.it. Never. WHY can’t I let it go? I thought it would be a nice way to get some science introduced in a fun-loving way with music, and maybe use the accompanying texts (fairly thin textbook and a workbook) or maybe not. I like the concept of it. And hey, we could listen to it in the car or over breakfast or whatever! Right? RIGHT?! Still haven’t.
So…has does anyone have any great success or failure stories about LLS to share? Or would anyone care to psychoanalyze me to explain my issue wtih these books?
I bought it a week ago to use with my Ds, I predict that he’ll love it! For some reason he enjoys stuff set to music, he doesn’t always sing along, but he does enjoy listening and my younger one will actually sing with the CD’s. Do you mind me asking which volumes you have? Have you tried it at all? Maybe try it and see if you like it before getting rid of it.
you know I have those also. It has been awhile but I think we used those in the car. I think the kids liked the songs from another tape I bought and I beleive we ended up ditching LLS also. Still have ours too. LOL . I can’t think of what we replaced them with but I can sing the song. Washingtons hat remember that …. Washingtons hat! maybe someone else can help me with recalling what that tape was…..??? It was a good one though. better than LLS
Washington’s hat… Was it “History Songs” from Audio Memory? That’s the only thing I can think of, but I’m intrigued! Hope someone else posts on that.
Well regarding LLS — I put the CD on over breakfast today. Umm. Ok. So the music is good; lots of folk songs and things like that (with different lyrics, of course). And *some* of the songs are pretty good. But maybe half of the ones we listened to have the man singing (and I’m assuming it’s the same guy in all the songs) with a really over-the-top country/southern/twangy voice. I could imitate it better than describe it. It would be so much better if he just sang it in what I assume is his regular voice. Hmm….
My kids like parts of it…although they liked less than I did.
ETA: Des, I have volumes 1-3. This morning we listened to all of volume 1 and half of volume 2. We’ll listen to it a bit more then I guess make a decision. Thanks for all the replies!
MLIP-I’m glad they liked it a little! I say give it a bit more time and see if it grows on them. If you guys decide you just can’t stand them, I might be able to take volumes 1&2 off your hands at the end of the month. But, I hope they like them!!
