Setting limits is always a good idea. I have to keep reminding myself that I don’t NEED 15 readers about George Washington!! 😉
I just got three boxes of hardback early readers in excellent shape from the library book sale for a dollar a box. No one else is/was interested in them…the books are from the late 50’s through the 60’s and have GREAT stories in them…Little Bear, Johnny Lion’s Book, Danny and the Dinosaur, and even a couple of Clyde Robert Bulla and Eric Carle books. Made me sad! I love these books and don’t really need extra copies, but they were in such nice shape it was a shame to think that they would be recycled. So now I can share these with my friends!
I found a wonderful copy of A Child’s Geography of the World by Hillyer for $7.50, a beautiful hardbound copy of Thorton Burgess’s Bedtime Stories for $2, a lovely Winnie the Pooh book (original stories and illustrations for $2 and a fanatastically done Beatrix Potter book that 18 stories in it for $3. I was feeling pretty excited!
200,000 books is a LOT of books – I guess when I picture something like that on a Hoarder’s show I am seeing them stacked to ceiling, covered in mold, dust, bugs, and pet “stuff”… rather gross and sad.
But I think that Robin, Christie, and others (most of us on the forum!) who are collecting, reading, sharing, and operating libraries do not qualify as hoarders because the books are being used. 😉
