Hello ladies. I am looking for resources to use with my girls to help them to learn that math is concrete and bleeds over into all other areas. I am looking at the book Compass Designs: Construction Designs Using a Compass and Ruler. While this says that it is for grades 4 – 6, I am looking for something along these lines that I can use with all of my students. Failing that, I would like to find a similar item for the high school girls to use – and I’d like to branch out into other areas of math.
While not math phobic, I am somewhat math tramatized by my high school Algebra II teacher. Couple that with the fact that I must sort every little bit out in my head before going on – tedious – partly because I moved from one town to another mid year and the subject was taught differently. But, I digress… The point is that I have creative ideas in my head, but need to use a guide of some kind to make sure that I am explaining it properly… and I want to have a logical progression to the activities as well – which I feel totally inadequate to producing on my own.
I have already shown the girls some of Vi Hart’s videos; we did the mobius strip this evening, and they really liked it. However, I want to incorporate these in logical places with the above mentioned, longed for resource.
Any suggestions or a review on the above?
