Hi-  I am looking for a good manners book for boys of 10 years of age.  Eventually, i would like to get a book for an older age that deals with dating/marriage BUT lets start with 10 year old!!  Any ideas.  Also, looking for one for a 13 year old girl-NOt one on growing up or “teenage issues” but a just basic one about good manners for christian girls.

    thanks

It’s not a book, but I just ordered from http://theetiquettefactory.com/  There are 3 levels to choose from. It looked like a fun way to make sure I’m hitting the manners I want them to have.  We haven’t used it yet as we are just starting our 2012-13 school year.  We’re going to start them next week.

I checked out the American Girl Ooops Manners Guide for Girls a little while back. It covered plenty of topics and was age appropriate. No body changing stuff either if I remember right. If you can get it from your library system you could check it out to see if you like it.

I have “Everyday Graces” by Karen Santorum. She wrote the book because she could not find a manners book for children “that instructs through stories rather than by rules and dos and don’ts”. Very CM in my opinion.

We have Everday Graces as well.  We’ll try the intermediate level of Etiquette Factory – I really liked the sample for that and the child reads it themselves (no silly songs or videos at that level).  As a family we’re reading Manners Made Easy – not my favorite.  I have to do lots more explaining and sometimes out and out disagreeing.  It’s also written in a format that’s not very kid friendly.  In the past we’ve used the Hidden Curriculum calendar (or iApp).  It’s a great one for teaching the ‘unspoken’ aspects of manners.  365 Manners Kids Should Know looks good, but it is written to the parent, not the child so if you’re looking for something they can do themselves, this wouldn’t work.

I have two boys around this age (12 and 11) and we’ll be hitting personal hygiene as well as manners!
