For those of you who have used LLATL, my ds will be 7 in Nov. and doing 1st grade work. This past year we did most of MFW K and some of the Elson Readers Primer. While I liked the Elson Readers I really like the looks of LLATL. (A little more structured.) My question is in placement. Based on what I am seeing on the internet I am leaning toward the 2nd grade level as ds is already reading. FYI: I will be using a different handwriting curriculum. I am just wondering what experienced users have found as far as placement. I tried SL LA K before switching to MFW last fall. I found that the reading level and writing/comprehension/etc. did not go hand in hand well for us. Readers were too easy for the other parts.
Hi! My daughter started in 3rd grade in the yellow book and has worked her way through green, she just finished up 7th grade.
She is a great independent learner who has no problems. My son, who struggles with english started in the 2nd grade in the red book. He is a great reader. It has taken him about 2 years in each book (red & yellow), I am debating right know if we will start orange or move into the purple in Aug. I have both, so I am out no money, just trying to see if he has had enough maturity growth and muscle strength to move up a year. So, my daughter is right on in the books with her grade, my son is behind in the grade by one year.
Hope that helps.
Vanessa
