I’m looking for some good living science books for my 14yo ds. Any favorites you’d like to share? Any science related stories whether fiction or non, topics or bio’s would be great; looking for variety. We’ve decided to hold off going any further in Apologia for a season. Therefore we need some good science reads to replace it. Thanks for sharing!

Have you read before the Exploring the World of Physics, Chemistry, Planet Earth, Biology and History of Medicine? These are all by John Hudson Tiner.  The age level is elementary through High School.  You can see a sample on http://www.cbd.com

Here is a list of some that I have read. They are all biology related. Keep in mind that these books are high school level and may have some language and do contain some graphic descriptions of what occurs in nature. They are not written from a Biblical worldview so there may be brief mentions of evolution.

Books by R. D. Lawrence: Trail of the Wolf, Owls: The Silent Fliers, Secret Go the Wolves, Paddy, and The Zoo That Never Was. Check for these at the library. Mr. Lawrence’s books are hard to find in print, but some are usually available from the library. These are all nonfiction and are based on Mr. Lawrence’s own experiences.

Farley Mowat’s Never Cry Wolf. Also, a nonfiction book relating Mr. Mowat’s experiences with studying wolves for the Canadian government.

You could also look for biographies of famous scientists and inventors such as Louis Pasteur, Marie Curie, George Washington Carver, Einstein, and others.

    Hi Heather,

I wanted to mention the ones I am using with my 15yo son this year.

I got them from Timberdoodle. Heres one on the digestive system….

    http://www.timberdoodle.com/A_Journey_Through_the_Digestive_System_with_Max_p/273-501.htm

They each cover a different topic–they look like comic books. Very appealing to a teen boy. Very interesting and fun. And they actually are learning : )

And they are only $5.75 each   There are many different topics.  We are reading the ones on electricity, motion, and matter.

Have a Blessed day in the Lord!

    Mic
