csmammaParticipantLooking for living books on natural disasters (for 12 yo ds). Anyone have suggestions? TIA, Heather
TailorMadeParticipantBump
missceegeeParticipantHeather, I have several of these books by Simon Seymour – hurricane, volcano, etc. they aren’t my favorites and don’t quite fit my living book ideal, but they are the best I’ve found thus far.
ShannonParticipantWe have enjoyed several books about the tsunami:
Elephants of the Tsunami (for younger children): http://www.amazon.com/Elephants-Tsunami-Jana-Laiz/dp/0977181855/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1372599854&sr=1-1&keywords=elephants+in+tsunami
The Night the Elephants Cried (for older children): http://www.amazon.com/Night-Elephants-Cried-Tsunami-ebook/dp/B00466HDDG/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1372599931&sr=1-4&keywords=elephants+in+tsunami
The Owen and Mzee books: http://www.amazon.com/Owen-Mzee-Story-Remarkable-Friendship/dp/0439829739/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1372599982&sr=1-2&keywords=elephants+in+tsunami (and there is a sequel)
I’d love to hear of other recommendations also for younger children (7yo), because natural disasters are the theme for next year’s JrFLL.
csmammaParticipantThank you for the suggestions.
@ Shannon, this years “Natures Fury” season is precisely why we are looking for books on natural disasters ;). We’ve been involved with FLL for over 6 years now, have had the opportunity to go to the World Festival, and are absolute fanatics! What an opportunity for your son to begin with FIRST so young – enjoy!
Blessings, Heather
