Yes, that’s right. My son loves trucks and he loves books. He is graciously sitting through the many “book list” books I bring home, but he’s looking rather bored most times. I plan to continue reading the “list” books over time, but I’d love to find books that spark his interest and right now, it’s trucks! By the way he’s 3.5yrs.
When my son was 3, his favorite picture book was “Sam Goes Trucking” by Henry Horenstein. It’s the story of a boy who gets to spend the day in an 18-wheeler with his trucker father. He learns all about the workings of the truck and the different types of things his father has to do on the job. I wondered for years whether or not the book was “twaddle”, but decided that it wasn’t because it immersed my son into a real life experience rather than just a Gail Gibbons-type of explanation of trucks.
We also love The Construction Alphabet Book, by Jerry Pallotta. Although it is listed as an ABC book, is packed with interesting information about different types of construction vehicles. My son loves this one, too.
Big Joe’s Trailer Truck by Joe Mathieu (this was a carryover from my husband’s childhood and is simply a nice story about a nice trucker!)
Frank and Ernest on the Road by Alexandra Day (author of the wordless Carl books) – this is a fun story of an elephant and a bear who take over their friend’s trucking responsibilities for a day; it includes CB slang and what it means. Fun!
Best,
Kelly
