For history, we really enjoyed SOTW 2 this year. Even my 6yo enjoyed the stories and coloring pages. I didn’t think I’d care for SOTW, but it really is a great choice for elementary ages. If they don’t care for the SCM spine (Story of the Greeks), you may want to give SOTW 1 a try.

We love SOTW, especially the audio narrated by Jim Weiss!

This is a great blog article when it comes to choosing living science books: http://www.livingbookslibrary.com/2012/04/is-new-always-better.html

Yes, Michelle we really enjoyed Ancient Egypt.  We loved Boy of the Pyramids and we did quite a bit of Ancient Egypt and her a Neighbors but the amount was too much for my kids!  I found myself picking out a little info from each section and showing the picture from The Stuff They Left Behind.  There were a few weeks where we read more so we just took it week by week!   So many don’t seem to care for the ancients but we loved it!  I totally forgot I wrote down Robert McClung a while back!  I looked into him a while back!   I think you were the one who recommended him!  Any specifics of his that you particularly loved?

    HollyS,

I totally agree that new doesn’t mean better!  I have found that I really like older books and the content is just as good, if not better!!!   We also plan to do Archimedes and the Door of Science!  My son loves science as well!

    McClung books we’ve enjoyed:

Otus: The Story of a Screech Owl

    Possum

Redbird: The Story of a Cardinal

Striper: The Story of a Chipmunk

    Peeper: First Voice of Spring

    That’s what can remember. 🙂

Thanks again for the history info.
