Little House/Rose Years books by Roger L. MacBride?

My almost-7-yo son and I just finished the entire Little House series and have just begun Little House on Rocky Ridge, and plan to read at least the next two in the Rose series (In the Land of the Big Red Apple and Little Farm on the Ozarks). Doing some research today, I read that as she grows older the books become, perhaps, a bit less innocent and more oriented to adolescents. Has that been your experience? If so, where would you recommend stopping in the series for a young child?
Also, if you have any other experience with any of the other LH series books, and could recommend any for my son’s age, I’d be grateful.

I am not very familiar with the Rose series, is it also by MacBride? I did read a Roger MacBride book in junior high, so it’s been awhile. Which is probably why I don’t remember much about it. Is it the poineer time period you are interested in? Or wanting to continue Laura’s story?? I can tell you some of the other chapter books (not LH) that we’ve read if you want.
Have you tried reading the original Little House Books by Laura Ingalls Wilder? and her daugter, Rose Wilder Lane wrote books also about their family.
Thank you both! Yes, Roger MacBride wrote these, too. We’ve started the first one and are enjoying it. I had found the first three books used so I had them on the shelf…we’d just finished the whole LHOP series, loved it, and wanted to keep reading about them! I was just wondering if anyone had read them and had a recollection of their evolving into a more “sophisticated” series as Rose grew older…I read some Amazon reviews that said Rose begins to date and so the storyline becomes more appropriate for older children/teens.
Based on my research, I plan to read the first 5 books and stop there. I’m always up for book recommendations for the future, though, so please share as you feel inspired to do!
I haven’t read these, but just today at our local library booksale, I ran into another homeschooling mom who mentioned how disappointed she was with the Rose books, perhaps with the direction Rose’s life took and what she knew of her life after the books. It made me think I’d want to peruse or research them myself before handing them over.
I just sent a you PM with other books we’ve read this year. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but another pioneer book series is Grandma’s Attic. I read them as a child. We read the first one this past year, In Grandma’s Attic (by Arelta Richardson). I don’t recall offhand how fast Mable grows up in the series, but definately check out the first book.
It has been a couple of years since I read them, and I don’t remember which book it starts with, but as Rose gets older she ends getting into the party crowd of that day. They’d go out and do remember some drinking and I think smoking happening. She didn’t tell her boyfriend that she was hanging with other guys. I was not happy with the ending of the series. I did look up online and that is how her life really went. But, I wouldn’t read it again for my girls until they were older if at all. Maybe you should check them out from the library and skim through them yourself to see if it is what you want to read to your son.
I have also read the Grandma’s Attic series mentioned earlier and have really enjoyed them. They seem to be wholesome all the way through.
