I am currently working through the SCM Literature Book Group 1 for Grades 1-4. However, we have never read the Little House series and I think my little ones would love them. (7 , 5, and almost 3 year old) I was thinking about starting Little House in the Big Woods and was wondering what many of you do? Should I plan to read through all the books in the series or should I just read a couple of the books and then go back to the Book Group list for sometime and revisit the Little House series later? Would you be willing to share what has worked for your family? Thanks!
With my son (now 12), I read a few, then took a break, then came back to them. I was going to read them in order, but he kept asking for more Laura stories. We wound up waiting until last to read Farmer Boy.
I was going to do the same thing for my daughter, but whenever I was about to finish with one, she would bring me the next one in the series.
We read Little House in the Big Woods, Little House on the Prairie, and Farmer Boy… And I forced myself to pull away just to get a greater variety, so we’re in Heidi right now, but I want to go back to the Little House series! So my plan is to finish Heidi, then do 1 Little House book, 1 other, 1 Little House, 1 other until we finish the series.
I read the whole series to my girls in order at age 7 & 8 as a family nighttime read before bed. Some nights we would read several chapters because we loved it so much. My little both 5 at the time listened, but they are very delayed and didn’t find much interest in it.
