Has anyone done a study with the Little House series? I’m looking for activities to do with each book. I’ve seen the Prairie Primer, but that’s a lot more than I’m looking for.

Veritas Press has comprehension guides.
There are also TONS of books on Little House at the library.Cook books.Song books.Biographies, etc. It probably wouldn’t be too hard to make something on your own.
We love Little House here.

This isn’t from a guide or anything, but a friend of mine found this link last week for making a drop spindle. We’re going to learn how to spin wool and then make hats (hopefully??) on our circle looms with the yarn we’ve spun. It fits nicely with the Little House books we’re reading right now.

Have you seen this “official” LHOP site? It might verge on twaddlish – I’m not sure about the value of a quiz called “Are you a Nellie or a Laura?” BTW I was a Laura lol. You would have to be a pretty over the top b-r-a-t to score a Nellie on this quiz.
But there are some activities etc here.

We are also reading through the Little House Series. I did purchase the Prairie Primer and only use portions of it to go with each book. Also I used the study guide from Queen Homeschool for Little House on the Prairie. We usually finish one book then take a break and do a lapbook and after that is finished go on to the next book. We are currently reading Farmer Boy.

We adore the LH books as well. We haven’t purchased anything but are usually inspired by the reading to find something according to the season. We went to see ice-cutting being done at a reservoir on a Shaker Farm/museum. February/March is a great time to either tap a maple tree yourselves or visit a sugar shack (depending on your location). You can make a simple card loom for a weaving project and make butter with just a jar, some heavy cream and lots of shaking. Popcorn, apples and cider, popcorn and milk and corn bread really delight our little guys.
The possibilities do seem endless…looking forward to hearing more.

I found another great set of books by Carolyn Strom Collins. The World of Little House has a chapter about each book and a few generic ones. It has diagrams of the houses and other great information and activities. The same author has similar books for Anne of Green Gables and The Little Women. These books are now oop, but can be found on e-bay and other used sources.

Here are the books that we decided on:
Laura Ingalls Wilder Country by William Anderson
Daily Life in a Covered Wagon by Paul Erickson
The Little House Guidebook by William Anderson
The World of Little House by Carolyn Strom Collins
We are also using a Little House paperdoll set.
And here’s a picture of the covered wagon that my husband made for the girls to play in. Notice the rocking giraffe that is pulling the wagon. 🙂

What an adorable wagon! That is so cute!
This morning I went on a search for this fantastic book that I bought a couple of years ago to go along with the Little House books. I finally found it! It was mentioned above;
Laura Ingalls Wilder Country by William Anderson. This is such a gorgeous book! I am not a history lover but have been glued to this book for hours today. It is definitely worth purchasing.
