    Hello Ladies,

I would greatly appreciate your help in planning my literature selections for the remainder of the school year.

    For my 2nd grade daughter:

In addition to the literature listed below, she has assigned reading for reading practice from readers and reads quality picture books that are in her 4 year old brothers preschool curriculum booklist. She is finishing the first term.

Trumpet of the Swan by E. B. White (read aloud)

All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor (read aloud)

Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne (she is almost done reading indep) (listened to The House at Pooh Corner on audio last year)

Five Little Peppers and How They Grew by Margaret Sidney

Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater

    Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

    And Pollyanna

I plan for my 4th grader to use two readers for the year, in addition he is schedule to finish a series of four wholesome chapter books for the first 12 week term. I would like him to read classic literature independently next term. He listened to All-of-a-Kind-Family this term. I am not sure which book group or books I should have him read independently and if I should have him listen to the above read alouds for my second grader (perhaps she should read them independently).

My 6th grader is finishing her first semester (1/2 year), she has not been required to listen to the read aloud list above. She is scheduled to finish the following books for the first semester:

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little Men by Louisa May Alcott

Jo’s Boys by Louisa May Alcott

Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss

The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan

Anne of Avonlea by L. M. Montgomery

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

For the next term do you advise that I have her listen to read alouds that she has not heard or read. Also should I assign her additional 5-8 grade books to read or should I assign her classics in the grade 1-4 category which she has not read or heard so that she doesn’t miss certain classics?

    Thanks in advance,

    Monique

Oh, that looks like a lot of great literature Monique.   Does she enjoy listening to read alouds or does she prefer to read alone?  I’d give her some input.

    Bumping for you 😉
