I’m reading over the suggested books and want to do Trumpet of the Swan. This is our first year with CM style and I am clueless!! Do I just read the book? is there anything I need to DO to go along with the book for literature???? I know we’re only doing 2nd grade, but still, I feel like I’m leaving out something. HELP!!
Just read and enjoy the literature together. You don’t have to do anything extra. My boys are kinder and 2nd; we just read a chapter a day. When the book was done, the went on to the next one. 🙂
Narration is the missing part. We don’t narrate our family literature read-aloud, but my kids DO narrate their individual literature either orally or in writing.
My DC love to do drawn narrations for their literature books. I often have them draw their favorite part of the book when we are finished…it’s so fun to see what they’ll pick! We do more frequent narrations for our other subjects (history, science, Bible).
One thing we did with this book was to trace the swan’s flight on our map. We located where he was born, and the places he traveled. It was a nice extension of geography with the book.
