I am planning a unit on stewardship.  we will cover ecology, managing money and possessions, and budgeting time.  Can you suggest a lively, not too long (like 250 pgs or less) read aloud that ties into any of this?  two thoughts i had were:  Island of the Blue Dophins or THe Five Little Peppers and How they Grew.  I’d like something that shows good care for the things they have, wise use of resources, caring for the earth, -OR- a story where money is tight, but that’s not what is important.

Does anyone have any great thoughts or suggestions?

    thanks in advance,

    Amy

Doesn’t All of a Kind Family touch on that somewhat?

What ages are your children again? This next selection might work better for slightly older children, since I’m not sure how long the book iis. What about Mama’s Bank Account by Kathryn Forbes? Even a few chapters from it might work. Or if your library has a copy of the musical I Remember Mama.

This is for some plans for a co-op I am running…I am writing the plans, that we get together for bigger activities.  We’ll have a large range of ages, and one month to read as family read aloud.  I am particularly looking for literature.

We’ll have one 7th grade girl, two 5th grade boys, two fourth grade girls, three second grade girls, one boy and one girl in kindergarten, and two pre-k boys.

thanks for the suggestions, i will look into them..
