I wanted to run our literature reading list by y’all, since this is our first “official” year of homeschooling.  I plan on reading Peter Pan, Stuart Little, Little Pilgrams Progress, and Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

At evening time I plan on reading shorter stories from Just so Stories, Fairy Books, and Fifty Famous Stories.

Any thoughts – Will this be enough? too much?  too hard? for 6 DS.

I don’t plan on having him narrate for literature, just enjoy the good books.

Thank you all for your input.  This is the only area I am uncertain of for the coming year.

Just thought I’d mention that if you haven’t read Charlotte’s Web yet I think it is a better EB White selection for a 6 year old then Stewart Little. I read both to mine this past year and they certainly enjoyed Charlotte’s web more. I think the themes and concepts in it are much more relatable to this age range…..just my 2 cents :o)

By Fairy Books, do you mean like the Blue Fairy Book and Red Fairy Book, etc?    If so, just be aware the stories are LONG, and some I think are horrid.  My kids hated the Blue Fairy book, and I wasn’t fond of it either.  (We were reading them because we used AO…)

Those sound lovely.  My children have enjoyed The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and we’re reading the second book right now.  They also loved Charlotte’s Web and The 21 Balloons was a fun one.

We all loved little pilgrims progress this year. I read it to a 4 yr, 6 yr, 8 yr old. They would all beg me for one more. Then they would play little Christian outside. So fun!

Wind in the Willows was a favorite of ours this past year.  Peter Pan we listened to on tape, and while my DD who’s 8 begged for more, the younger ones didn’t really care and where glad when it was done.  But that was just us.

Thank you all for your input.  We haven’t read any E.B. White yet and I was just picking one.  I think we will switch to Charlott’s Web, by popular vote from your children. 😉  I was debating Wind in the Willows as well, but wasn’t sure if that would be too much.  I guess if we finish the rest we can add it.

We have the Red, Yellow and Blue fairy books.  I have read them all and know what s in most stories.  There are a few short stories mixed with the longer ones and I like the stories were the girls that the kings and princes whant to marry are the ones that are kind and sharing, etc.  Some are defenitly grisley.  I was surprised to find a whole second half of the sleeping beauty in the woods where the kings mother wanted to eat the children.  I will definatly be choosing those stories wisely.
