I mostly know what we are doing this year, but I want to know a few little details.  If this is covered in the Planning your CM Education, I’m sorry I’m asking.  I have ordered the DVD, but I’m getting a little impatient waiting for it.  Embarassed

Here’s my question:  We are reading several books at the same time; is this okay?  We are reading Eloise Wilkins for my youngest and Farmer Boy and Dr. Seuss for my oldest, along with some other fun reading.  Should we finish one book (Farmer Boy, for instance) by reading it every school day until it’s complete; or should we read several chapters out of different books at the same time?  I don’t want to confuse, nor bore.  Help!

Cindie, keeping more than one book going is perfectly cm. Her thought (and I agree) was that, as we allow the children to ‘snack’ on a book, versus chowing down, they will retain more of it – it is the idea of actually allowing them to ‘live’ with the book and think about it. We keep a number of books going for that reason and a couple/few others: One is that I have an age range that desires different books (Winnie the Pooh is great for the 5yo…but the 12yo?!). Another is that we find it easier to actually ‘do’ something with the reading if we take it slowly. Sometimes, though, we will need to read one consistently because it is a library book and must be returned. In that case, I try to check it out right before we want to read it and spread it out as long as I can.

    Hope this helps!

    Blessings,

    Cindy (another one!)

Thanks, Cindy!  I am so excited to get started planning, but I want to change direction (to CM) because I know this is God’s plan.  I am trying to be patient, so thank you very much!  It makes sense.  Sit, simmer and savor!

    Blessings,

Cindie (with an “ie”) thanks for asking.  I have wondered the same thing and we’ve been schooling the CM way for a long time.

Cindy (with a “y”) I appreciate your taking time to answer.  Your insight makes much sense.  I like the analogy of snacking on a book rather than chowing down…savoring it.  It makes a neat word picture.
