So I was looking through the literature modules here on SCM…but I don’t think any of them are a good fit for my son. (I think he would balk at Alice in Wonderland, The Little Princess, etc.) Although some of the selections look appealing, he recently has been telling me that listening to stories is “boring” and I want to start off the year with some good literature to spark his interest again. He used to LOVE being read to!!
I’d appreciate any suggestions for a six year old boy…adventure, exploration, exciting/interesting stories.
The chronicles of Narnia are excellent. I read the entire series to my son when he was six and now that he is 8 he is reading them for himself. At six my son read Stuart Little and Mr Poppers Penguins on his own and liked them. History biographies like George Washington were a big hit – war and guns and courage lol!
Not as much on the adventure, but well written, clever and FUNNY. (I’ve found with my 5 yr old and 7 yr old if the book is clever and funny, it pleases them almost as much – sometimes more — as adventure)
On adventure, my son just finished The Sword in the Tree (Bulla) and he couldn’t put it down. My Father’s Dragon was a hit too.
Thank you so much. I looked and our public library offers most of those titles…even has a few on Kindle for free! (21 days…not sure about renewal but I love the convenience of ebooks so that is exciting)
I *think* I may be getting my planning done soon. Hopefully.
