Literature – 7th Grade Girl

    I’m planning on the following scheduled literature books for my dd12’s 7th grade year. 

    • Swiss Family Robinson

    • Animal Farm

    • The Hobbit (may sub. this one b/c she’s read it before)

    • What Katy Did

    • Ben Hur

    • Never Give In: The Extraordinary Character of Winston Churchill

    • Kidnapped!

    I have room for another shortish book in our schedule (250 – 300 pages or so). Any suggestions? She’s quite well read, so I need several suggestions to sift through. I’m thinking a girlish type of book would be good given the others.

    One of the shorter Jane Austen books

    We have some of the Lamplighter books (and all of the audio dramas…highly recommend those!) and also some really nice titles from Elizabeth Alden, A.L.O.E, and Hesba Stretton from Keepers of the Faith.  Her Mother’s Bible is a really great one from Keepers.  Their books are pretty inexpensive, too.

    I’m guessing that she has read the Little Women series and Anne of Green Gables. Both of those are delightful.

    I have heard good things about Girl of the Limberlost, too.

    The Von Trapp Family Singers was excellent. I enjoyed Maria’s writing and she was so good to always remember and thank the Lord for their blessings.

    My Antonia or O Pioneers by Willa Cather may fit your needs also.

    I’m reading Girl of the Limberlost and it’s really good.  Not sure how long it is, I have it on my kindle.  May have been free from Amazon.

    Thanks for the suggestions! She’s read most, but the couple she hasn’t will go on her free reading list.
