“missceegee-Well, I finished compiling the master booklist in excel for HIFI”
Hi im wondering what is HIFI? I looked at the Booklist at box.net but just wondering about the HIFI itself? All the Lists of books are a great resource. Thank you all!! God Bless!
Hi Billiejo, HIFI stands for (in my mind only, I know) Higher Up and Further In. You can find it via google. It’s a mom’s blog w/ her AO inspired CM curriculum that I’ve used for the past 1.5 years. It’s well put together and Lindafay (the blogger) has a wealth of CM information. For me, though, the Lord is telling me to put the kids in the same cycle and to simplify. I plan on using her booklist as a great resource to fit into our new SCM framework and using many of her tips on the “how to” of CM educating.
I love the updated lists with authors! I’m printing them out as you finish them. Thank you for the work you’re doing for this. I look forward to printing them all when they’re complete!
I feel bad that I haven’t finished them as promised. I have only a few left, then I’ll combine them for a new master list. It shouldn’t take long, it’s just “getting” to the PC to do it.
Not that it’s an excuse, but I’m readying our home to sell (moving further in the country…yeah!). I will make it a point to get back on a finish those lists.
Glad they help. I keep mine updated and send them to friends in big cities that can hunt in thrift stores & library sales for me. I am planning a big “book hunting” trip this summer, looping through the larger cities within a 3 hour radius to see what all I can score.
I wouldn’t change my country life for anything, but finding books in the boonies is certainly a challenge! 😛
Congrats on your move to the country! I understand all that’s involved in moving. We moved twice in 10 months – once way out to the country and then back to town. I loved everything about our place in the country, in fact, we still own it, but all of our friends and family are in town and it was difficult for them to come visit.
No rush on the lists. I’m appreciative of them as they are. I wish I were good at looking at thrift stores for books, but I HATE shopping. I prefer buying online and having them delivered to my door, even if it costs a bit more. 😕
OK..finally done! The big “master” list is up, but not in module or grade order. It’s alphabetic. At this point, you’d have to go to the individual lists to find when and how each book is used.
I’ll work on getting the module/grade info on the master list at some point.
And just as an encouragement for those of us on a tight budget. I started about 2 years ago collecting these books. Most of the books I have are in excellent, if not new condition. I have most modules already collected through high school, and oodles of extra finds. I get them all second hand. I have had to purchase new very, very few. The math program I use (and it is EXCELLENT) is available free online. My overall homeschool expenditure is teenie weenie and my children’s education is beyond compare.
So don’t get discouraged when you see the lists and start adding the totals. You don’t have to spend lots of money. It doesn’t take lots of time to collect them, nor do you have to settle for inferior seconds. God is faithful to direct our paths…even when hunting for books! 😀
