I have just had you on my mind the last 2 days. Didn’t know if you were still checking your blog so I thought I might catch you here. Hope all is well.
Thank you so much for thinking of us and praying for us! The move was stressful (is there any other kind??), but we are settled, unpacked, and I cooked my first two meals in our new home today! Hubby just got our computer hooked up yesterday, but I have been checking up on you all via my phone for weeks now. I’ve missed you!
We moved from a 3,200 sq. ft. house into a 1,058 sq. ft. apartment, and we are LOVING it! You all know I’m pretty passionate about simplifying, living with less, purging stuff, etc., and we have gone to the extreme. It’s been a lot of fun to see just how much of our stuff we can live without, and so far I haven’t regretted getting rid of anything. There is also a pool that is visible from our front door, and the kids are loving every minute of that.
Our home is still not closed. Our buyer wanted to lease the house from us until closing, so we agreed. We moved out of our house on June 30, and he moved in July 1. What he pays us to live there covers the mortgage, taxes, and insurance, plus a little more, but we didn’t want to have tenants; we want buyers! And he still isn’t being forthcoming about his financing–or lack thereof. We were selling it ourselves, but we have since hired a realtor to be our middle man in communicating with the buyer. We are thankful our expenses are taken care of there so we can live our lives in our new home, but what we are really needing is the equity out of our house. My husband and I are continuing to pray for wisdom about what to do, and we would appreciate your specific prayers about that as well–and any creative options you can think of!
We have spent this past week unpacking, but also exploring our new city. It has so much more to offer, and we are certain we made a great decision for our family. I have already met and had coffee with two homeschooling moms this week, and more get-togethers are planned for the future! This town is the complete opposite of where we came from and in a good way! If you have any other specific questions, I’m happy to answer. Just know that we are doing well and I’m ready to finish planning for next year and re-join you all on here!
Good to hear from you Lindsey! I too had you in my thoughts and prayers today. I will pray for the sale of your house, as well as the continued blessing of new friends.
Glad to hear things are going well! Our move is this Saturday and I should have hired you to come simplify my place. I thought I was doing a good job, but when I look at all the boxes, I realize I wasn’t. I’m going to get rid of a lot when I unpack I think. I need to borrow some of your purging passion. I’m actually not so bad, but I live in fear of my pack rat husband, lol.
I am so glad it is going good! I am in purge mode right now too! Our house is 1200 sq ft And I would honesty be ok with smaller. I will definitely be praying for the sale of your house!
Oh, I admire you Lindsey! I love anyone who follows their dreams – especially when they seem a little radical! My husband and I tend to forge our own path too. Some things work out better than others, but no regrets. I smiled at the smaller living space. We did just about the same thing when we made our big move from small town country living to New Orleans. Isn’t it funny … I can’t remember what was in all those rooms/space? I guess we thought we needed it and now all I can think of is how to get rid of even more! The kids hide things in their rooms for fear I’ll deem it unnecessary and donate it, LOL. When anything is missing everyone comes to me! 🙂
Wonderful to hear you are doing well, Lindsey! I’m sure it must be a relief to be able to properly deal with groceries and cooking again. Moving is SO hard on the daily routine and most especially when we are trying to eat/live healthy. I will continue to pray for peace for you and your familly. especially as it relates to your house sale.
Our major downsize and move to less house/more land was last year, and I have never been happier now that I am back in a modest sized house, freshly “purged” and with lots of land for the kids to roam and (in theory) veggies to grow (as of yet, I have not started gardening…but it is on the dream list, LOL)
Our big dream is to live on 5-10 acres and grow much of our own food, have chickens, and let the kids roam freely. It has been something we’ve wanted and prayed for for almost a decade, and this last move was a huge step in that direction. My husband and I would really like to build a small home on land and pay cash for it. When our home sells, the equity will be a large chunk of the funds to build our home. We are so happy in our little apartment. Even with just moving in, it has been easy to keep clean and picked up, and my husband and I even cooked a meal together last night without bumping into each other too much! I am regretting my decision to quit blogging just a little, because I think these adventures would make good material! LOL
So glad to hear you are doing well. Sorry it took me a few days to respond. I had to make an unexpected visit back to Alabama. Man it is hot down here in the south!!! I am so encouraged by your decision. It is something I am very passionate about as well. My husband and I have decided that our next home will be much smaller. It is just nice to live simply. So glad to hear you are doing well. I hope it becomes home very soon!!!
