Ok,  I know the big day is tomorrow.  I am going to someone elses for the big day. But I thought maybe some of you have some great turkey recipes that I haven’t tried.  I love to try different things and maybe there isn’t something that I have tried.  My first Turkey I tried a Brown paper bag. Yes, someone suggested it and I accidently left the neck and the gizzards (in the bag)Embarassed In the turkey…. But the idea was to put butter all over the turkey and the top of the brown paper bag.  So, I thought what do I have to loose I have never made one and this was a great idea.  It turned out beautiful.  Actually, my mom came over and after exposing my mistake of the neck and gizzards, declared that it was by far the best turkey she has ever tasted…. must have been the neck and gizzards.. 😉   So, I have tried stuffing it… Not a better thing to do for me… Then I have tried it with Rosemary, sage, and thyme.  That was good.  Then I tried putting the seasonings on the inside under the skin of the turkey.  That was good also…   My husband shot a Turkey a few weeks ago and shot the leg right off of the bird so I had one gynormous bird with one leg.  I took the leg off and stuffed it in his rump and cooked it in a lasagna pan with foil over it. (to big for the turkey roaster) It had no skin on it and so I rubbed the seasoning all over the top. I managed to fool the kids because they swore we had skin on the turkey. LOL…  Anyway, every year I try different things. So, I was wondering. Does anyone have another way they cook their turkey or some spices they want to share?

Oh, I almost forgot to mention my sisters mistake that turned out to be a great turkey. She had hers in the turkey roaster.  She put it breast side down. She was going to turn it half way threw the cooking time and then it would be juicy and brown on the top.   It exploded in the roaster.  Top blew right off of it… LOL.. Anyway, It was another success and we now put the turkey breast side down but we make sure not to cook it as long as you are suppose to… Half the time we have figured…

I sure hope to hear about your successes and failures too!   Have a blessed holiday!

I’m a butter, s&p kinda girl. But, a friend does a salt brine overnight. Yum! I believe the recipe is on the Morton salt website.

How about grilling it?  I think we’re going to try this this year – it’s supposed to be nice outside!

I put my turkey in the oven at 170 degrees (the lowest setting my oven will go) and cook the turkey overnight through til about lunch time.  It is fragrant and juicy every. single. time. and fuss-free.

I’ve never cooked a turkey! LOL! Of all the from-scratch cooking I do, I have never even wanted to attempt a turkey. I love Thanksgiving, but I can’t stand Thanksgiving food. I don’t know why, but I just don’t like it…except the pies. 😉 The one year we did the big meal at our house, we went totally non-traditional with a grilled, marinated chicken, roasted asparagus, 5-cheese penne, and a mango and black beam relish. It was DELICIOUS! I admire all you turkey cookers though. And HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We alternate homes, but when it’s our turn, we use these recipes and our turkey is THE BEST ever!

never tried the Brine turkey or the smoker type. That’s a new one for me… 🙂  Yippee! I get to try something new.

I have eaten a turkey in the turkey frier. They are good even when boiled in water. Dh loves them that way but we were at someone elses house when we tried it. Sooo. good! Don’t own one and I can’t justify the price for how often I would use it and the storage for it. Plus all the expense for the oil and risk of being burnt..(fear factor!) Embarassed Watched them make the one we ate and it was pretty scary business. I would leave this one to an open outdoor area and professionals. 🙂

@ BLue j  –  My friend makes her Turkey that way every year. I have never tried it that way because. You know the fire hazzard thing at night.  I know I shouldn’t be afraid but , Well, I am…   She will only make hers that way and she says it is really good. I thought about cooking it all day that way. Hmmm?  sounds like a good idea to try. HOw long do you cook it at that temp and do you stuff it? How do you know when it is done?

I am making pecan pie, homemade noodles, baked beans, deviled eggs, and homemade rolls.  Friends are making the turkey and fixin’s at their house. 🙂 I can’t wait to see how they are going to make theirs.  So, glad to hear so many different ideas. I never even heard of brined turkey. Never thought about smoking it or grilling it either….  Oh, so many possibilities!  Thanks for all the ideas. I hope there are more too.
