I need help I have 7 wonderful children with a total of only 4 different god-parents. So many of my kids have the same god-parents. Every year we try to make them something or buy if money allows. But when say 3 of the kids are giving to the same people I can only imagine they are grateful but once we leave wondering what to do with 3 of the basically same items. We try to do things that are not silly and useful. We’ve made home made vanilla, wind chimes, ornaments, mix in a jar type things (that one got spendy), and so forth. But this year I’m at a loss of what to do and the budget is pretty tight.
So what simple (17yrs to 5 yrs) gifts have you made? What suggestions would you offer? I would love your help so please bring it on!! Blessings Misty
Have you ever made vanilla extract? The easies thing in the world and everyone we’ve given it to has LOVED it. You can google it but basically it vanilla beans in vodka. Shake it occasionally for several weeks.
I think people are blessed by personal things the children make: drawings, poems, stories, ornaments, handicrafts, a homemade frame for a family photo. In the past, we have gotten ideas from firstpalette.com and this year my dd has some crocheted projects to give. We work on them starting in September.
This year, I am writing everyone a personal note to send with our Christmas cards and pictures. I write a few each day and hope to be done by Thanksgiving. I thank them and let them know what the children are doing. I think that will really bless them. I had done form letters or nothing in the past.
We also are planning to take homemade cookies and a card to places of business who have serviced our family the past year: post office, doctors, library, etc. We are trying to show our appreciation and to bless others. I hope my children will see it is more blessed to give than to receive.
Handmade cards – blank or thank-you cards, with envelopes.
If you have artsy-craftsy kids they could draw/stamp/colour the fronts. Or you can take pictures of nature and crop and stick them.
If they are local to you maybe each child could give them a coupon/certificate for a service…”Certificate Exchangable for One Lawn Mowing”…or one plate of homemade cookies…that sort of thing.
Duh, Misty! You said you’d made vanilla! ? I missed that. I just really try to give gifts nowadays that do not add to clutter. Most people have so much already, and while we all appreciate any thoughtful gift, there’s only so much space. I find folks really enjoy gifts that are “disposable”…in a good way. I like the gift certificate for services idea.
This is going seem weird probably but we have been researching bat houses. We are going to build a couple to put on our property to aid in insect control and they are just super cool. They are simple to build, something I’m sure one of your handy older boys can do all on his own and then let he you gets help paint or something?
