We are moving to Peru next summer and I don’t know how reliable the internet will be where we live. So I’m thinking I will need to have stuff for the next 2 years at least. And I can’t take very much, so tons of living books aren’t an option, nor is there a library. All in all, its taking some rethinking to what I’ll have on hand. Anyone have any experience with this? Do you think I could use the history book without any of the extras (unless i can get them in digital form) and still get enough out of it? I suppose it would be better than doing nothing! I do like the book… Thanks everyone!
Could you load a bunch of e-books on an iPad to take with you? I have about 300 living books on mine (so I can have a good library with me when I travel, you know!). Gutenberg.org and Google Books are great sources for downloading electronic files of good classic books.
We are looking at heading to Africa next year, so I’m kind of in the same boat with you.
I’m trying to get everything that I can as either an e-book or kindle. Even if it’s more expensive. The other thing that could be a possibility is making sure you have a library account set up before you leave so that you can get ebooks even while overseas. We have been told by others that this works well for them. I suppose it would depend on your internet, but it’s worth a shot.
I’m not sure what shipping costs are, but it’s also possible that you could purchase some books and leave them with a family member, and have them mail them over when you need them.
Also, if you can’t find an ebook or kindle version of a book you need, there is a possibility that you could get it as an audio version, and that might serve the dual purpose of taking less space, and freeing you up from some of the reading, as I’m sure you will be very busy getting settled in etc.
Just some thoughts. Hope that helps! And blessings as you face all of the upcoming transitions for your family 🙂
