OK, so my dd10 wants to learn Latin next year (Year 5).  No clue where to start with that one…  I know no Latin whatsoever, and I have no clue how to go about finding a suitable curriculum for her!  I do know that I need her to be self-taught, I prefer a Christian program, and I would like it to adhere to CM’s foreign language recommendations as much as possible (of course).

Then there are the other 3 kids: dd9 (Year 4), dd7 (Year 2), and ds4.  I’d like them to do Spanish – something easy, both for me and for them.  My dh is fluent in Spanish but with no real time to think about teaching it himself.  Doesn’t have to be self-taught – I can do it with them.  Otherwise same as above.

Any thoughts on either language?  TIA!

We are planning to begin Visual Latin, available online, this fall.  There are two free lessons to try out.  I think the cost is very reasonable as well.

In a couple of weeks, before we start that, we will begin going through Getting Started with Latin by Linney.

Both of these resources look wonderful.

Another recommendation here for Getting Started with Latin. We are moving to Mimimus 1 and 2 after GSWL, then Cambridge.

Thanks for the recommendations for Latin.  I was leaning toward Getting Started with Latin, but hubby came home and said she needs to learn a living language.  Undecided  So she picked Swedish.  Surprised  She can’t be simple, can she?  Tongue out  She’d better settle on something quick here.  I’m trying to plan!!!  LOL

Alright, so does anyone have recommendations for Spanish then?  That I know for sure we are doing with at least the younger 3.  Laughing

We have been doing La Clase Divertida and really enjoying it. We do not do the book work, but watching the videos we are learning. My oldest is 7. It is not fancy or flashy, but we really do enjoy it. I am learning Spanish rught along with them, which is fun.

Free videos that we used for Spanish are called “Salsa!” I’ve also bought and listened to a great music CD called “En Mi Casa” that I bought through Amazon.  We are moving to Little Pim for my youngest and The Learnables for my oldest this year.  Hubby and I are starting Pimsleur Ultimate Level 1 as well.  We both studied spanish in college and hope to get conversational at home as a family.

I’m also looking into Latin options.  There are so many to choose from!
