We are currently slowly switching over to CM and I am trying to incorporate LA into our days.  We have always used workbooks for LA, with good results, but, am looking forward to making the switch 🙂  Can anyone tell me a little more about Spelling Wisdom and the grammar books suggested?  I have three boys, ages 10,8 and 5.  I am not asking about my little one 🙂  We are taking it nice and easy with him. My oldest is strong in LA and spelling, but, my second son is a little weaker and I was wondering how it was.  Thanks for your thoughts 🙂

The sample gives you a real good idea of Spelling Wisdom. She includes the “How to Use” part.

For your 8yo, I would recommend doing copywork and making the gradual switch to transcription. You can find a description of the process in this article on language arts. You can add the English for the Thoughtful Child book if you want to. I would recommend you do most of it orally, rather than requiring all that writing for him. It might help to look at the Contents to see what all it covers.

For your 10yo, Spelling Wisdom would work well. Have you watched the video on the Spelling Wisdom page? That will give you a good idea of how prepared dictation works. If you want to start introducing grammar this year, you could do half of Junior Analytical Grammar. Take a look at the sample on their site to get an idea of what all is covered and whether you want to incorporate it this year. (There’s no hurry; you don’t have to study nine parts of speech every year.) You might introduce a typing program instead.

Then if you’re including narration, poetry, and good living books, you should have language arts covered.
