I have 2 boys (12 and almost 9) that I think would enjoy the Lamplighter books, but I’m unsure after looking at their site which ones to choose from. I found a link titled Character Themes or something like that. Could someone who has read these books (or have had your dc read them) please direct me to a few really good ones. My oldest is hardworking, but could use a little more compassion toward his brothers…my middle boy loves Jesus, but is a bit dependent on us or doesn’t want to try challenging tasks for fear of failure.
I would like for them to read them alone and let them mull over the characters on their own.
I think there have been other recommendations for books like these so I’m open for any suggestions. TIA
@Misty, I know they have a website….Lamplighter something…I’ll check for it, but maybe I can find some used ones somewhere. I’m kind of cheap, but sometimes these type of books are harder to find used. We may start off with 2 or so and see where it leads us.
I’m excited! I think they are really going to like them. If you find some cheap somewhere, let me know:)
You can buy them from Lamplighter Publishing directly. They offer great deals at times and while the books are not cheap, they are the most well made books I own.
We have just started reading some titles from Lamplighter. It started when I read a blog that told how wonderful the audio books were. I ordered two and have already listended to Sir Malcolm. This weekend was our state homeschool convention and Lamplighter had a booth. I knew I wanted to purchase some titles but because of their high cost could only purchase two. It was very hard choosing. We choose Helen’s Temper for a character trait book and A Peep Behind the Scenes. The staff at the booth were most friendly and helpful. They said if you could only choose one book to read it should be A Peep Behind the Scenes. We also purchased our next audio book, The Captive.
I can’t recommend the audio dramas highly enough! They are FABULOUS! All my library patrons love them as well. One boy in my library was so sad when he had to return Charlie’s Choice, he said “It’s like losing your dog!” His mom ended up buying that one for his birthday.
I did find The Peeps Behind the Scene in Kindle format for free, so I grabbed that, yeah! But, my kids love audio books so I will be getting one soon. Our library is a large one, but low on audio books that we haven’t already listened to.
We have a lovely collection of Lamplighter books and they are the only ones that I can always recommend without hestitation to people, they can be pricey, but to us are worth every penny. Like Christie said the company often offers really good deals, and we waited for a few of those and then purchased. Nice quality books as well. Linda
